BIO
Mariana Paredes is a Colombian visual artist whose practice is rooted in sustainable, conscious art, using plants and natural materials as active participants in the work. Rather than treating nature as a resource, she works with natural pigments and organic elements in ways that allow variability, impermanence, and material behavior to shape each piece.
Her practice centers on the tension between control and surrender—between what can be guided and what must be allowed to happen. This balance reflects the emotional states that inform her work: anxiety, heightened sensitivity, and an ongoing search for inner steadiness.
Color and movement are essential to her way of working, guided by intuition and an embodied relationship with the materials. The unpredictability of natural pigments introduces irregularities that resist uniformity, slowing down both the making and the viewing. Each work develops gradually, through accumulation and response, forming a quiet exchange between intention, material, and time.
Her work invites slow looking. It is not meant to dominate a space, but to exist in relationship with it—shaping atmosphere through restraint, rhythm, and sensory presence. The pieces function as moments of pause, leaving room for viewers to bring their own emotions and interpretations, without fixed or imposed meaning.
Alongside her visual practice, writing and graphic design play an important role in how ideas take form. These disciplines allow concepts to move fluidly between image, language, and structure, expanding her artistic vocabulary while remaining grounded in material sensitivity, awareness, and emotional clarity.
